Come along and sing for your health!
We meet on Tuesdays from 28th Jan 2020, 1pm – 2.30pm (1.30 start)
Emmanuel Church Hall, Hadlow Rd, Sidcup DA14 4DR
Between 1-1.30pm tea and biscuits will be available so feel free to get there early for a drink and a chat!
Cost is £3 per session, but there are free places available. Please email to register, stating whether you are a regular or a concession.
Everyone is welcome: those living with dementia, their carers, friends, and anyone else who would like to attend. The session will consist of singing games, rounds and simple ditties (old and new), call and response songs and popular songs through the decades. All the pieces will be simple and easy to follow, using lyric books.
The Bexley Dementia Friendly Choir was conceived with the inspiration of last year’s BBC programme, “Our Dementia Choir”. Watching the show made choir leader Christina Carty realise how valuable singing was to people living with dementia so she began to research how she might start her own dementia choir. She had been told that the regular singing group for dementia could only be attended by patients who were referred by their doctor. The result of this was a waiting list! There was clearly a need for an alternative. With the help of the Bexley Community Partnership, she discovered the Mayor of London’s Culture Seeds initiative and applied for a grant. In December that grant was awarded and it’s been full speed ahead ever since! The project is set to continue until the end of May and if it is a success it will continue long term.
Please note there is no parking outside the church.
There is free parking (2-4 hours) on Granville Rd and Belton Rd but this can get very busy.
The High St covers various bus routes: 51, 233, 321, 492, B14, R11
Parking is free in Morrisons for two hours. This is a 5-10 minute walk.
If you are under confident finding new places, there is a “visual story” of the walk from Morrisons to the church hall available. Please email email@example.com and you will be sent the picture document.
